What the swing does

The rods sit side by side along the wall, so turning the specimen about an axis running along the wall moves both lower pins the same way and neither rod changes length. The rods carry the weight and leave the specimen free to turn. The only thing resisting that turn is the top connection, so the specimen pivots about the connection, the base kicks out, and the rods tilt to follow. The lever arm from the connection down to the load, 290 mm through the spreaders against about 600 through the base clevis, sets both how far the base travels and the moment the same force puts on the connection.
